Newly discovered in 2013 by veteran gem explorer, Yianni Melas; independently tested and verified by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in 2015
Named for the beautiful shades of blue— suggestive of the waters of the Aegean Sea and the lush green vegetation surrounding Greece, Melas’ homeland
May also contain pockets of druzy quartz, inclusions of metal oxide; iron, vanadium, and copper have also been detected in specimens
