Discovered in Northern Central Arizona, near Meteor Crater, the site for this meteor impact is believed to be about 49,000 years old
Named for nearby Canyon Diablo or “Devil Canyon” (the Spanish translation for the Native American name) which lies 3 to 4 miles west of the crater; these meteorites where considered sacred and treasured by the pre-historic Native Americans of the area
A coarse iron octahedrite composed primarily of nickel-iron with graphite, sulfide nodules, and carbonados (minute black diamonds)
