• Lepidolite is a phyllosilicate (phyllo = “leaf” in Greek, referring to its sheet-like structure) characterized by its ability to be split into thin, relatively flexible plates, with a pearly, vitreous luster; a member of the Mica group, from the polylithionite-trilithionite series, so named due to its high lithium content
• More common purple Lepidolite is colored purple, pink, and sometimes reddish by its manganese content (Mn2+ and Mn3+); Green Lepidolite is colored by iron (Fe2+), much like in Clinochlore of the Chlorite group
• Not to be confused with Fuchsite (another green phyllosilicate/mica) which is colored by chromium, instead— Fuchsite in Quartz is known as Green Aventurine
