• Selenite and Satin Spar are two forms of the same mineral, calcium sulfate dihydrate (gypsum), growing under different conditions
• Selenite typically grows in transparent to translucent flat sheets whereas Satin Spar forms in fibrous white masses which give it a fiber optic quality and sometimes a “cat’s eye” chatoyance or reflectivity
• Selenite gets its name from Greek σεληνη “selēnē” which means Moon

Caution: Prolonged water exposure will cause stone to break down.  Use nothing abrasive, will scratch surface of stone.  Handle with care, stone is very soft, brittle, and prone to breakage.
