• A mineral (MgAl₂O₄) of the Spinel-Group which includes Chromite, Gahnite, Galaxite, and Magnetite
• Its name is from the Latin spinella, meaning little thorn, in reference to its pointed, natural octahedral (8-sided) crystals
• Colors vary due to various concentrations of trace elements (Minerals 2022, 12(8), 928) of Chromium, Iron, Vanadium, and Cobalt, with the color varieties of blue, green, and
  clear/colorless being the most rare
• In Burma, Spinel are said to be nat thwe or “polished by the spirits” as the crystals
  discovered are sometimes so perfect in form and color
