• A sulfur bearing sodium aluminum silicate from the Sodalite Group; the trace amounts of sulfur can give this mineral the unusual property of Tenebrescence (reversible photochroism): natural color-change from shades of purple, blue, pink to a greenish-grey, white within minutes to hours when exposed to the UV of sunlight— then recovering its original color in darkness over time (hours to days); this effect can be repeated indefinitely but may be destroyed by heating
• Specimens may also fluoresce orange in UV light with rarer specimens even exhibiting prolonged luminescence or a natural glow-in-the-dark effect where it will continue to faintly emit light for a period of time after
• First “discovered” in Greenland in 1901 and named after Finnish geologist, Victor Axel Hackman
